In the green, forest-rich northern part of the Dordogne, Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek has converted a run-down old water mill and adjacent barn. Entirely private in a forest clearing, the two holiday homes (both accommodating 8 people) are both in and a part of nature. The rustic ambience of the modest interior with exposed stone walls, wooden ceilings and concrete floors is given a unique twist by specially made objects and furniture made from scrap wood by the designer himself.
Piet Hein Eek's holiday homes are located in the Dordogne, on the green hills of the Périgord Vert, on the estate of Château de Mavaleix in Mavaleix (municipality of Chalais), France. About an hour's drive from the beautiful city of Limoges and 40 minutes from Periqueux, a small town with many cosy restaurants and boutiques. You can enjoy the houses and the beautiful garden here. We recommend taking walks through the beautiful surroundings, visiting the castle of Jumlihac and visiting the market in Thiviers on Saturday mornings, where you can find delicious local produce. For a beautiful horse ride through the countryside, head to Pony Club de St Pantaly d'Excideuil, half an hour's drive from your stay.
The houses - which can be rented together or separately - are designed to be relaxing, so ideal for a relaxing family holiday and peace-seekers. Start the morning with a cup of coffee on the terrace, then drive to the market for fresh local produce that cooking enthusiasts can indulge in in the spacious kitchen. Children can go on adventures in the forest or play on the grass. If it gets too hot, there is plenty of swimming in a constructed swimming canal or in the little river La Valouse that flows past the garden. You may also go swimming in the pool at Chateau Mavaleix, or play tennis on their tennis court (20-30 minutes' walk).
